For those looking to add some style to your kitchen, here is a list of ideas.   My inspiration was from an article in the Chicago Tribune

1. Add some color on your counter tops.

As if it was apparent in past posts, my personal design tastes typically align with a style I like to call “Modern Traditional”.  I do not really know if that is an actual term or if its something I made up.  Regardless, what I mean by using the term “Modern Traditional” is that I appreciate design that has a foundation of traditional substance and form, yet detailed with a modern minimalist approach that lets the use of materials speak; integrating into the local context and environment.  Bates Masi Architects is a firm that does this very well.

“One of the most important design concepts at Flux Studios is “truth in materials”: Let your designs be a simple complement to an already beautiful material and let the characteristics of that material be foremost in informing your design decisions.”

Alternative Hardwood Flooring Option | Plywood

In Flooring on September 12, 2011 at 10:27 pm

I was recently asked by a client for flooring options that would create a “Pottery Barn” presence in a space.   I have previously posted about reclaimed flooring options, but wanted to share an alternative option for anyone on a budget.  Check out these plywood floor projects that achieve this rustic, modern, country-style at a fraction of the cost.  Each link provided below offers more examples and ideas.

Design Crisis – Clear and painted finish examples

Frugal Farmhouse – painted plywood strips
